Ahhhh. Is it any surprise to anyone to learn that the release date for Superwoman has been pushed back yet AGAIN??? The latest news is that it's due out first week of July.
Questions, questions…..
{mosimage}Why are Sony/BMG completely unable to release any of Paulini's recordings in anything resembling a timely manner? What possible justification can they have for this constant changing of release dates, even after officially announcing them on radio, internet and television? How much longer can Sony/BMG maintain any credibility with Paulini fans or with the music industry in general with this interminable delaying of an album that was completed nearly a year and a half ago? How much longer will Paulini be able to put up with this undermining of her solo career? Will we ever see Superwoman - the album? Or is it just a myth?
Paulini is a performer in her own right – but it seems Sony/BMG are only seeing the dollars they can make from Paulini as part of the Young Divas. A very short-term, purely mercenary view that makes a mockery of their recent accusations against this website – that we are, in some way, detrimental to Paulini. It's reached the point where the media are now laughing and making jokes about the non-appearance of this album. Inpress magazine are running a permanent segment on it titled "paulini watch" and if we were in America, I'm certain David Letterman would make it a regular comedy feature on his show – can you imagine it?? How can this be good for her career?
I know a lot of Paulini's fans are getting beyond angry with the way her career is being handled but it's important to understand who is doing what in this situation. Sony/BMG have a "recording contract" with Paulini. That means they get to decide what she records and when and how it's released. They have all the control over the actual recording side of things. She has other people working with her who are responsible for booking her gigs and making decisions about her career and development, such as Caplice management and The Harbour Agency, but they have to work within the confines of whatever Sony/BMG decide to do with her actual recordings. I'm sure there are people involved in Paulini's career who are genuinely trying to help her and develop her as a musician, but I reckon their hands are pretty well tied if Sony/BMG decide to push the release date aside in favour of someone else's recording that the company would prefer to promote at the time.
Sadly, that's the price Paulini is paying for scoring a recording deal with a major company who then, UNFORTUNATELY, merged with the company who originally REJECTED her. The personality of the company, their attitude toward her career and their approach to her fans changed dramatically after the merger was settled. I know because I've been in contact with various people since the beginning. The focus in their dealings with the public and Paulini's fans seems to have gone from being all about Paulini and excitement over her career, to being all about about protecting and promoting Sony/BMG at all costs. I understand they need to make economically viable decisions and all that, but surely there needs to be some consideration for the artist too. It seems like Sony/BMG have crossed a line somewhere.
Now I'm the kind of person who can't help but try to see the positive in things – no matter how bad they get. So I have to say here that whoever is working behind the scenes with Paulini in her relations with the Channel 7 network, deserves as much credit as others, involved with these ridiculous delays, deserve criticism. She really seems to be the darling of that network and is now even appearing in their network promotionals singing a line from their signature tune (in a very cute RnB way).
So congratulations to you – whoever you are. Keep up the great work – thank GOD someone is on her side. {moscomment}
