Sadly, cancellation is true!

Unfortunately I have to confirm that Paulini’s much anticipated acoustic tour has been CANCELLED!!

This is sad but there is a reason, I just can’t say what it is … YET. RPM will be issuing us an exclusive statement in the next few days.

Meanwhile, enjoy this gorgeous photo of Paulini taken at the Olivia Newton John Cancer Fund Raiser recently. Paulini performed at the event and you can watch her performance of Say A Little Prayer on the video below. (thanks to Adam!). This is a cracker of a performance, a little raw and edgy. To me it’s a departure from the strictly professional, exceptionally controlled performances she usually does. And I actually like that about it. I detected a couple of errors, which in itself is a rarity with Paulini. But to me it felt more natural and raw than anything I’ve heard her do before. And the errors were minor anyway. This is a powerful rendition!!

ENJOY!

Acoustic Tour

Thanks to several members for giving us a heads up on this fantastic news about Paulini's tour.

Former Young Diva Miss Paulini Curuenavuli has today announced three intimate and very exclusive acoustic performances in Sydney and Melbourne in November. Featuring two sets, this will be a great opportunity for fans to hear Paulini's most recent work, before her new single and album are released early in 2009.

Of the shows, Paulini says, "I'm looking forward to getting out there and playing live again, especially having the opportunity to perform my favourite songs in an acoustic way – I'm getting my family up to help with the singing on the Sydney shows – it's going to be a lot of fun and a good night for people who love those "big" songs".

Tickets are already on sale for the Sydney dates, while the Melbourne show goes on sale on September 03.

November 15 : Melbourne (The Palms at Crown)
November 21 : Sydney (The Vanguard)
November 22 : Sydney (The Vanguard)

New Year’s with Paulini

Well at last we have official confirmation that Paulini will be performing at the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Darling Harbour.

She’s been mentioned in the television advertisement and this today from the Herald Sun:

Gretel Killeen and Tripping Over actor Daniel MacPherson, as the hosts of Channel 10′s New Year’s Eve special, will present two one-hour programs from the Sydney Opera House, culminating in a light and fireworks display.

The programs will feature interviews with revellers, predictions for 2007 and performances by Paulini and The Whitlams.

In news.com.au

It will be broadcast on Channel 10 on Sunday night from 8.30 to 9.30 and then again from 11.30 to 12.30. Hopefully it will also be broadcast on one of the regional networks. Unfortunately, it seems Big Brother “celebrities” will also feature heavily in the broadcast so you might have to have a mute button handy :)

Paulini will then head off to the Civic Hotel to perform at the Booty Bar at 12.30.

And while were on the subject, here’s wishing you a fantastic New Year’s Eve celebration and a great start to 2007.  Be safe!!

Paulini NYE event

Friends of Dorothy ring in 2007.

Sydney led the world into 2007 in inimitable style, with a spectacular fireworks display courtesy of the City of Sydney.

The night had a ‘Diamond Night in Emerald City’ theme, marking the diamond anniversary (75th) of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Official festivities at the Opera House were more than a little queer, with pop star Paulini performing a rendition of Judy Garland’s ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ and an entertainment segment featuring the cast of Priscilla: The Musical. Children were encouraged to click their heels three times to usher in the first of the night’s fireworks displays, as giant images of Dorothy’s red slippers from The Wizard of Oz were projected onto Harbour Bridge pylons.

This story – and variations of it – appeared in several publications, both mainstream and "gay" -  in the days following New Year's Eve celebrations at Darling Harbour, Sydney.

Here's a link to one of the publications it appeared in.

Carols and videos

Videos of the Young Divas at Carols in The Domain now available via this link: CAROLS

Paulini has been busy as usual with the Christmas Carol season upon us. Each year she is in big demand to sing at Christmas events all round Australia – and this year is no exception. Keep an eye on the Gig Guide and Forum for more gigs – note that it's EXTREMELY hard to get info on her solo gigs so check with your local venues and please let us know if you hear of one we've missed!!!

{mosimage}Apart from her gigs with the Young Divas, Paulini has been enjoying herself performing Carols at public events and for children in hospital. There is a video available of her visit to the Sydney Children's Hospital last week – see the forum media section for the link.

And last night Kel was sweet enough to call me on her mobile phone from a rainy Sydney, just so I could listen to Paulini and the girls rehearsing for the Christmas Carols in the Domain event! They sounded awesome performing an old gospel standard and will also perform Do You Hear What I Hear  on the night. Don't forget to watch it on the Seven network from 8.40 tonight!! Let's hope it's not raining again.

I also got a call when Damien Leith was on and he too sounded stunning singing Hallelujah live. Can't wait to get a report back from Kel, Hayden and Mel (?) about being there live on the night! Hope you didnt get drenched in your tents guys!!

In other news – Paulini has been nominated for the Best-dressed Award in Pop Republics readers poll for 2006 (see the forum for links to the voting form) and rumour has it she's now sporting a cool belly-button piercing!

Finally, Paulini was online a couple of days ago (yes REALLY!) answering fans questions (in the Divas news forum) and some of her replies suggest that she is working on writing new songs and planning a new solo project very soon.  Yay!!
