5 Minutes with the ultimate soul diva…Paulini
She has a big voice, big hair and a forthcoming album called Superwoman that is bound to be huge. She may not have won Australian Idol, but her attitude-free approach to the ego-driven music industry has won the hearts of many…
C: Tell us how your life has changed after Australian Idol?
P: Dramatically … I have never been as busy as I am now. Sometimes I'm kinda shocked at some of the things that have happened but even though it is overwhelming it is amazing at the same time. I never thought I would one day be overseas recording an album!
C: It must be quite surreal to have people recognising you on the street.
P: Now that my single is out — yeah. It is all a little odd … you’re just hanging with your friends and suddenly people start screaming 'Yeah, Paulini!' It's so cool and really encouraging!
C: What are the perks of being a celeb?
P: Boys do notice you more!!! And I have to admit you do get a lot of free stuff. But there is always a
price to pay.
C: Are there days that you think, 'What have I done?'
P: Sometimes. When I released my first single I couldn't believe how much work I was doing! Some days I'd
think, 'I would really love to sleep in today' but then you think about how many people out there would love to be doing what you're doing and you just thank God that you got the chance.
C: Who musically inspires you?
P: Beyonce Knowles … she motivates me so much. On the Australian front, I love Ricki-Lee and Delta Goodrem…
C: Which of the Idol gang do you still see?
P: I keep in touch with Cosima a lot … she's doing really well. I also try and keep in touch with Shannon and Guy, but they're always on the go!
C: What's your favourite track on your new album Superwoman?
P: 'Rough Day', 'So Over You' and 'Superwoman'.
C: Who produced the album?
P: There are three main producers. I worked with Ray Hedges in Spain, Colin Manuel in London and Matthew
Gerard in LA.
C: Finally, any advice to other aspiring performers?
P: Follow your dreams and don't ever let anyone else tell you otherwise. You will get some negative
responses but all you have to think of is reaching that goal. Don't ever give up!
