Paulini bows out
After a very controversial two weeks Australians were once again called to vote for their favorite idol.
A recap of Sunday?s, October 26, 2003 performance saw the remaining four idols perform with a live, swinging? big band. That certainly put a different perspective to their performance.
Looking very elegant and sexy, Paulini Curuenavuli, came out in a long black dress. She wore beautiful silver jewelry and a $700 pair of black and silver shoes. She sang a number by Etta James, who was quiet a sassy performer in her time, called ?At Last?.
As always Paulini made Etta?s song her own. She had the audience and judges alike mesmerised as her voice swooned across the room.
Marcia Hines comments, to Paulini, after she sang referred to previous ones that were made a couple of weeks ago by a fellow judge: ?Don?t get angry ? get even.? That?s exactly what our Paulini did. Ian Dickson stated that if Paulini wanted to wear a tight fitting dress she had to lose weight.
This time his comments weren?t so harsh, quite the opposite, telling her how beautiful and ravishing she looked, and her performance was just ?sublime?.
For her second song, Paulini chose, ?Almost like being in Love? a song made famous some years ago by Nat King Cole. The judges could not be heard after her performance as the crown went crazy, screaming, and cheering. She was absolutely fantastic.
Despite her tremendous performances over the past few months, Paulini was voted-off the show. Nominated with 21-year-old, Guy Sebastian, from Adelaide, she scored the least amount of votes to keep her in the competition. Guy moves on to next week along with country boy, Shannon Knoll and Cosima De Vito. They make the final three.
She was as gracious in defeat, as she was throughout the contest. Her final song, ?At Last? , was certainly something to remember – there were a few teary eyes in the audience.
We should all be very proud of Paulini?s performance, and for making it to the final four. Some 10,000 contestants from five cities took part in this competition. Paulini made it to the final 40. Then down to the final four. Now that certainly says a lot for Fiji?s OWN IDOL.
