Message from RPM

Direct from Paulini’s management, we catch up on what Paulini is doing and why she’s had to cancel her acoustic shows.

It’s been an incredibly hectic time for Paulini over the last few months and she’s going to be flat chat right up until Christmas!

Paulini begins a new chapter

Paulini begins a new chapter

Paulini has been busy writing songs for her third solo album, which she plans to release in the first half of 2009.

She has already written around 14 songs with both Australian and international songwriters, having spent a few weeks in New York back in May writing with some of the world’s best. She’s planning to head back to NYC at the end of the month and into November.

It’s Paulini’s future plans for songwriting, demoing and recording which caused the cancellation of the Acoustic gigs that were scheduled for November – opportunities have come along within timeframes which means that Paulini needs to concentrate solely on this aspect.  It’s a very important time for her and the songwriting opportunities which have opened up for her in New York in November are incredible!

Aside from preparing for a new album, Paulini also has some special Carols appearances coming up in December and will appear on Channel 7’s Carols In The Domain on 20th December in Sydney.  A full “gig guide” of these kind of appearances and performances will be provided for you all next week.

Until then, stay safe everyone and thank you so much for the support!

Carols For Whole Community

From CHRISSY GUINERY at the Milton/Ulladulla Times

The entire community is expected to turn out for this years’ spectacular Community Christmas Carols by Candlelight.

With more than 600 in attendance last year, the crowd is expected to swell to double this year – with many sponsors on board promising a sensational event.

With a free admission and an action-packed program on offer, it is the place to be on Friday evening.

For those wishing to enjoy a picnic dinner, the evening commences at 6pm with hot food available through Ulladulla Milton Lions Club or byo picnic and hot and cold drinks for sale by United Christian Education Foundation (UCEF) members.

Jazz funk musicians from throughout the Shoalhaven area will provide entertainment during the hour dinner period.

An initiative of the combined Christian Churches of Ulladulla, the Carols will feature guest artist Paulini from Australian Idol and Young Divas.

Shoalhaven Anglican School has provided the perfect venue, overlooking the rolling hills of Milton – with a bigger-than-ever fireworks display by Eric Crocker of Sunset Fireworks to conclude the action-packed evening, with something for everyone in the family.

Carols will commence at 7.30pm with popular Youth Minister Tom Foley standing as MC for the evening and Milton Town Band providing the tunes.

Other guests include SAS Barbershop Quartet, guest speaker 26 year old Sam Low, St Mary’s Star of the Sea School along with community singing.

Committee coordinator Steve Campbell, whose main role has been to whip everyone else into shape, said the night is fulfilling a dream.

“It is the combined Christian Churches’ desire to bring the town together for a spectacular Christmas event, to honour God and build bridges within the community,” Steve said.

So many people have come on board to support this event and we want to thank everyone involved.

“The community will certainly have a night to remember.”

Prime, Shoalhaven City Council, local Christian Churches, Isis Egyptian Day Spa and Salon and South coast Ford are major sponsors, providing monetary donations, printing, the vehicles to bring Paulini and her manager Nicole Heart.

Ulladulla Printing Services supplemented the posters, which were designed by talented local lad Daniel butler.

Lions are providing hot food stalls while the rotary Club is in charge of grounds management with fencing, lighting and carparking.

Tim Thompson from Soundslike PA systems will do the sound again this year.

Shoalhaven Scaffolding Services donated the scaffolding.

Memories of Thyme is providing the candles that will be for sale to raise funds for a local charity and Wool’n’Things have provided curtain material, with Sue Robinson busily sewing for the past month to make the stage curtaining.

“There are so many involved in a production of this magnitude,” Steve said.

“Administrative coordinator Suzanne Phillips has done an amazing job; Phil Brown has been our link to service groups and ensuring the nitty-gritty ground stuff is in order.

“Lisa Gowen will serve as Paulini’s PA while her husband, stage manager, Pastor Adam Gowen has taken care of the production side.

The night commences at Shoalhaven Anglican School on Croobyar Road in Milton on Friday from 6pm for picnic dinner, with carols commencing at 7.30pm.

Fireworks are scheduled for a 9.15 finale.

Sadly, cancellation is true!

Unfortunately I have to confirm that Paulini’s much anticipated acoustic tour has been CANCELLED!!

This is sad but there is a reason, I just can’t say what it is … YET. RPM will be issuing us an exclusive statement in the next few days.

Meanwhile, enjoy this gorgeous photo of Paulini taken at the Olivia Newton John Cancer Fund Raiser recently. Paulini performed at the event and you can watch her performance of Say A Little Prayer on the video below. (thanks to Adam!). This is a cracker of a performance, a little raw and edgy. To me it’s a departure from the strictly professional, exceptionally controlled performances she usually does. And I actually like that about it. I detected a couple of errors, which in itself is a rarity with Paulini. But to me it felt more natural and raw than anything I’ve heard her do before. And the errors were minor anyway. This is a powerful rendition!!

ENJOY!

DFO Opening Canberra

From The Canberra Times

Thousands hunt bargains at sneak preview
BY SARINA TALIP
12/09/2008 12:00:00 AM

Looking stunning in a black lacy cocktail dress from Australian label Master/Slave, former Australian Idol contestant Paulini is the first to admit she loves fashion.

Paulini flew into Canberra from Sydney yesterday to sing at a private function for the opening of Direct Factory Outlet. Speaking last night, she said the 30-minute set would be a mix of songs from greats such as Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle, ”but more remixed as a disco funk kind of thing, so I want everybody to get up there and dance”.

Even if people didn’t dance, they were certainly shopping. More than 3000 shoppers who had registered online were the first to pass through the doors.

Paulini said she was a fan of DFO in Sydney.

But she said bargain-hunting was something she was still learning.

The Fijian-born songstress is often touted as a style icon, although she finds the label amusing.

”It’s so funny. When people say that, I’m, like, ‘Nooo.’ I like everything and there’s not a particular style that I like.

”If I feel like I’m in the mood to dress a bit edgy tomorrow, then I will, or if I want to dress a bit classier today I will. I don’t really have a style, I just kind of go with what I feel.

”I’m very lucky: once I put it all together, it does go and everything gels. But I do love different styles. I just love fashion.”

More news!!

worldyouthdaypromo.jpgPaulini has been a busy girl in the last few weeks. As you can imagine, World Youth Day took up a lot of her time and she’s also been performing at various corporate gigs and attending a variety of events along the way.

In addition she has been hard at work in the studio putting together the pieces of her new album.

Over the next few days she will be doing more writing and recording material for the album and for what her new management regards as ultimately a “relaunch” of Paulini as an artist and musician!!

Which reminds me, now I can tell you a bit more about that new management mob.

I spoke with Tom today, a big supporter of Paulini’s who has been involved in her career for some time now. Some of you will have met him at various Paulini/Divas gigs around the traps. Tom left Caplice a while ago to work with the company who have just started managing Paulini. And I have to say, after a long chat about their work with Paulini I am feeling very reassured and excited for her future.

So who are these new management people?

Their name is Revolutions Per Minute (RPM – clever huh!! I like it) and they are a small but experienced and dedicated company with a promising approach to managing artists.

Here’s what they have to say about themselves:

[RPM IS} An Artist Management and Public Relations company made up of people who  share the same philosophical approach – developing a small roster of enduring Artists who are committed to building credible and global careers.

RPM is a niche yet first-rate contemporary Music Management company in the Australian Entertainment Industry with a diverse and incredible Artist roster including Shannon Noll, Paulini, Melinda Schneider and The Motorola ARIAs.

Founded in 2004, RPM originated as the sole venture of Nicole Hart. The extensive experience Nicole has gained over the years at SonyBMG, Mushroom, etc – in addition to her love of music, experience in creating hit records and strength in Artist Management – is the passion and drive behind the company and the success of RPM and its Artists.

RPM has quickly become one of Australia’s most reputable and respected full-service international management and artist representation companies. They pride themselves on their diverse and eclectic talent roster spanning internationally through worlds of music, publicity and concert events.

In this business, one must anticipate trends and truly love the art form. RPM is rooted in the inspiration and discovery of Australian talent and the progressive evolution of setting new standards in the management and public relations realm.

In short, they sound like a breath of fresh air and if Nicole has retained any of the underlying philosophy and approach of our iconic Mushroom records then that is good news – not just for Paulini – but for the Australian music scene in general!

YES BUT is she still with Sony/BMG???

I know many of you are DYING to know the answer to that question – so here it is.

YES she is.  This may disappoint some of you I know as there has been a lot of discussion that she may have been better off with an independent label. BUT there is a great up-side to this because it also means Paulini continues to have the considerable resources of a major recording company at her disposal while she works on her new album.

But more importantly, if her management are as dedicated and savvy as they seem to be, the combination of having well-focussed management as well as access to the resources of Sony/BMG could be the best thing for Paulini. I guess we can only wait and see….

AND LASTLY – what sort of music is she doing??

Some of you have asked (in the comments and by email – particularly my persistent correspondent – you know who you are LOL) what style of music this new album will showcase. We’re all wondering where Paulini plans to go musically and I know we all have our preferences – although they are often quite diverse!!

Unfortunately I still can’t tell you much about this. All I know (ie have been told) is that the songs are “distinctly Paulini” both in the lyrics she has written, the style of music she is producing and – tantalisingly – in the way she uses her diverse vocal talents throughout the recordings. Apparently, as soon as you hear it you will know who it is and that it’s Paulini’s very own, individual, distinctive sound and style.

Ahhhh. It’s all so intriguing……LOL

Bleeding Love

This will get your heart started! Filmed (remarkably well!) by someone in the audience at the Bring it On gig in April here’s Paulini doing what she does best, with a live band NOT a backing track.  (TO HER NEW MANAGEMENT:  no more track performances please).

SUPERB!

Paulini in the studio

This came in as a comment on the latest news ("Change at Last") article below but I thought it deserved a spot of it's own.

This is a very short video of Paulini working on her new album a couple of months ago with "Dennis and Aaron" at PLW Studios.

PLW is owned by Paul Wiltshire who has worked with Paulini in the past (if I recall correctly he might even be the fellow who played that beautiful piano on the gorgeous one-take track "One Determined Heart" on Paulini's first album.  He has also co-written songs for Paulini with Victoria Wu.

Anyway, thanks to whoever posted this link in the comments. It is a joy to see her making her OWN music and being the artist we always knew her to be.

Enjoy –
