Diva to star in Carols by Candlelight

YOUNG Divas and Australian Idol star Paulini will headline this year's Townsville Bulletin Thuringowa Carols By Candlelight.

The event will be held on Wednesday, December 6 at the Thuringowa Soundshell.

Paulini Curuenavuli will join hundreds of local performers, including the award-winning Thuringowa Brass Band, Cheersport North Queensland, and choirs from 10 different schools.

"The 2006 Townsville Bulletin Carols By Candlelight will go off with a bang, never before has the city attracted such a high-profile name for Carols," Cr Tyrell said.

"We are extremely fortunate to have such an abundance of local talent on show at Carols and I am sure no one will go home disappointed."

The entertainment will run from 6-9pm, with two large video screens set up.

Carol-goers are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket and arrive early to collect the free song book.

Townsville Bulletin promotions manager Doug Kingston said the event continued to have a strong family-focus, with a number of school choirs and children performing.

The Bulletin will be handing out SafeFlame candles for children on the night.

The Bulletin will also have glowsticks available for a small donation to the Christmas Appeal.

Donations of money, food and toys will be collected on the night for the Thuringowa Mayor's Christmas Appeal.

"The Willows Shoppingtown Santa will be taking time out from his busy pre-Christmas schedule to make a special guest appearance and collect gifts for the Appeal," Cr Tyrell said.

Food and refreshments will be for sale, and rides and activities will be available.
