Paulini – Live and Pretty-ful

Some of us get to see Paulini singing live once, others might be lucky enough to have caught her live shows a couple of times, but for others, there just ain’t enough Paulini concerts in a day for them to get to!!

Kelly and Hayden have been to more live Paulini gigs than you can poke a stick at, having been dedicated supporters of Paulini during the It Takes Two show and now at her Young Divas performances in Melbourne.

I was lucky enough to have joined them for one of those concerts and other Fanlisting members have also joined them at least once. Here Kelly gives her perspective on the Divas concerts she’s been to and includes some video and audio treats just for our members.

Friday 18th August 2006:

The first concert was on Friday the 18th of August at the National Theatre in St Kilda and few days before the show we ran into a little problem. We had 3 tickets but only two people (Hayden and I) going to the concert. This caused us to spend the week before the concert frantically calling almost everyone we knew to try and get the seat filled! It wasn’t until about 10pm Thursday night that Emma, a friend of mine, agreed to come with us!

Anyway, at about 5:30ish on the Friday, Di came by my house and picked up emma and I, and she drove us to the concert, as well as Hayden and a friend of Di’s. On the way there we were all really excited and This Time I Know It’s For Real even came on the radio, so we pumped it up to get ourselves ready for the show. We had a bit of trouble finding the venue but once we got there and parked it was time to find a place for dinner.

We found this small bar/café place and the guy assured us that we would have our meals in time to get to the concert. Well cutting a long story short it got to 7:55pm (the show started at 8 and we hadn’t got our meals yet), so Di, Emma and I left for the show while Hayden and Di’s friend stayed around to eat their meals.

The three of us got there just in time to find our seats (Di was in row B, and Emma and I in row N) and get comfortable before the lights went out! (I will put a set list at the bottom of this article instead of writing it out 5 times hehe) Hayden rocked up after one song and Emma and I were already partying away!!

And here’s the first of my very special surprises for fanlisting devotees – VIDEOS!!

Queen of the night

Stand up for love (only kate)

The girls were great, except you could hear that they were a little sick as they weren’t as strong vocally as normal and you could see them trying to get each others help in some parts. Emily thanked the audience for voting for her on idol, while Ricki-Lee introduced everyone to Dan O’Connor who was in the audience. She also mentioned someone else was there and said ‘but I’m not going to tell you who it is because you will mob them’ (we later discovered this to be Anthony Callea).

Interval came round quite quickly and it was now time for our plans to unfold. We made a neon sign out of glow sticks which said ‘we love you’ for when Paulini sings ‘say I love you with a neon sign’ in TTIKIFR. The audience around us were watching us as we put our creation together and it turned out great – if I do say so myself hehe.

Here’s aother video!

VIDS TO COME: Superwoman

The girls then came out again and it was Paulini’s turn!!! She was awesome and that girl can dance!! I filmed most of her set, and she is quite small, but it’s still good:

So over you

VIDS TO COME – Angel Eyes / Freeway and Don’t Leave me This Way

Next was Kate and she told us her family was in the audience but didn’t know where they were so she couldn’t wave! The girls came out to finish and everyone was up boogying away . Ooverall it was a great night of entertainment.

VIDS TO COME – TTIKIFR

We let the crowds disperse and then Hayden, Emma and I went down to chat with Luke and Tegan and meet up again with Di and her friend. We hung around down near the stage for about 10 minutes before security told us to leave so we started making our way outside.

As we were going out Hayden messaged Paulini to say how much we enjoyed the concert and to our surprise she called about 2 minutes later. She offered for us to go backstage but we decided to go the following night, which I will tell you about later hehe. So she spoke to both Luke and Emma over the phone as they weren’t coming on the Saturday.

We all then went outside to wait at the stage door (well what we thought was the stage door anyway!) and found a park, so a few of us had a swing and a climb on the play equipment hehe and waited for the divas to come out. After about half an hour Ricki-Lee came out with Dan O’Connor so the gang stopped her and had a chat and some pics – then she left.

We then decided to go as we didn’t want to be out too late and walked back to the carpark. We paid for the parking on our way up (as the signs said to do !) and got in the car and started coming down the ramps. As we got to the exit we noticed a car just sitting in the driveway and someone was inside paying. Di’s friend then said ‘Don’t they know you need to pay before getting into your car to leave’ and guess who walked out of the paying place?? Ricki-Lee!!!! We were all wondering if it was and then Di said ‘It IS Ricki’ so we beeped her and she turned and waved hehe. We were all laughing and joking about it the whole way home. Anyway, Di kindly drove us all home again and that was the end of our night!!

Watch out for the next installment – Saturday’s concerts!!
