Rocking Out with God

The Australian Gospel Music Festival is over for another year.

And while some people were lazing around munching on the fruits of their Easter egg hunt, over 30,000 people visited the Garden City for three days of music and entertainment in Queens Park.

Over 800 artists performed on stages and marquees provided shelter from the sun for thousands of visitors to the festival

This year?s program was packed with exciting performances from artists like Grammy Award winner Rebecca St James and Golden Guitar winner Brendan Walmsley. But perhaps the biggest drawcards for the younger audience were Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian who performed on Sunday afternoon and fellow Australian Idol finalist, Paulini Curuenavuli who performed on the Friday night.

For the last six years the festival has marketed itself as a safe, happy and affordable attraction for families, and this year was no different. Over 2000 people camped on the site and police and security guards were on constant patrol.

More than 800 artists took to stages around the venue and children were kept amused with a circus, movies, an animal farm, games and story telling.

Before the thousands of people arrived, ABC Southern Queensland?s Vicki Thompson toured the facilities and took a few snaps of the massive marquees which comfortably seat 11,000 people.

With the festival gaining in popularity, perhaps by the time Easter rolls around next year, even bigger marquees will be required.
