Webhosting blues

You know what I REALLY hate. It's when a con-artist sucks people in by pretending to offer a service for free and then suddenly tells you they want you to start paying for it or lose it.

I'm talking about the people who host this website, Jumba.com.au. Just a few short months ago I moved this site to their hosting service because they were Australian, they said they supported non-profit websites and they had a basic service at no cost.

I was planning to upgrade to one of their paid plans when I could afford it and had been busily recommending their paid hosting to anyone who asked. But yesterday I received an email telling me I had two weeks to start paying for the hosting or leave. I was flabbergasted.

This is the oldest con trick in the book and reflects badly upon their business ethics and general trustworthiness.

So, unfortunately, this means I will once again have to find another hosting service and rebuild the entire site somewhere else. NOTE that this does NOT mean the websites internet address will change. I bought the address at www.paulini.info and that moves with the site. So it will ALWAYS be www.paulini.info.

It does mean that I have to now search for a good free or cheap hosting service and then move the site yet again. That means there will be some disruption to the website but hopefully I can keep it to a minimum. I apologise in advance for this – it will probably happen in the next week or so. The process of moving the site can take days behind the scenes but should only effect what you see for a day at the most, hopefully just an hour or so.

If anyone can recommend a GENUINE webhosting service that's free or reasonably priced please let me know. If anyone can help out with costs that would be great too.

Meanwhile, if you're one of the people I recommended to use www.jumba.com.au for your professional hosting needs – I unreservedly withdraw that recommendation. Run a mile from them and go elsewhere. Sadly, I still find that hosting services located in the United States are far better business people and value for money than those in Australia but if I can find a decent Aussie hosting service I would be thrilled.

Please post any ideas you have in the forum in the  Webhosting Ideas thread.
